Everyone is trying to cut back at the moment, especially with Christmas in the offing. The cost of products such as cleanser, toner, moisturiser, hand cream, make up, shampoo, and conditioner can add up but there’s no need to end up bankrupt in your attempt to look good. It’s not necessary to ditch your Olay and start melting beeswax in your kitchen but a few sensible measures can make a big difference to the beauty budget.

If they are to be believed, then a piece of raw potato rubbed on blackheads is apparently every bit as good as a shop bought product, whilst honey dabbed on your blemishes works wonders in killing the bacteria as well as helping the healing process.

If that all sounds a little too low-cost why not have a look for money off coupons in magazines and on the internet? Another good idea is to bulk buy when your favourite products are on offer. Bargains can also be found online and if you spend enough, postage and packing will usually be free.

Shops like Superdrug may be rather unglamorous but bargains are to be had on a lot of our favourite brands. Supermarkets too can be a good source of offers. If you tend to shop in the more expensive shops such as L�Occitane and Molton Brown make sure you ask for samples at the checkout.

Another good way of making your hard earned cash go further is to make the things you buy multi-functional. For instance Vaseline is a favourite for using on lips but have you tried it as a cheap way of smoothing your eyebrows or mixing a small amount to a powder eye shadow to turn it into a cream one? Mascara can double up as eyeliner, baby lotion as eye makeup remover and eyeliner as an eyebrow pencil.
